The brief
Most budgeting apps look like spreadsheets with a logo. Volve needed the opposite: something that felt closer to a premium consumer product than a finance tool, so that logging an expense felt light instead of punishing.
The scope was everything — naming direction, brand system, product design, the app itself, the backend, the marketing site and the two store submissions. No agency handoffs, no separate design and dev vendors.
What we built
A cross-platform mobile app from a single codebase, so iOS and Android stay in sync instead of drifting apart. Accounts, budgets, recurring transactions, categories and insights all sit on a managed Postgres backend with row-level security, so a user only ever sees their own data.
On top of the core app we added an AI receipt-scanning flow: photograph a receipt, and the merchant, total and category are extracted and turned into a transaction instead of typed in by hand.
- React Native / Expo app for iOS and Android from one codebase
- Supabase Postgres with row-level security and auth
- Budget, recurring-payment and category engine
- AI receipt scanning that turns a photo into a transaction
- Marketing site and in-app onboarding
- App Store and Google Play submission, review responses and release management
How it shipped
The app went through real store review on both platforms — including a rejection, a same-week fix and a re-submission. That part matters: getting a build approved is its own discipline, and it is included when EXTENSA ships an app rather than being left with the client.
